Snake Removal Training

Our snake removers are trained by the professionals at Watamu Snake Farm in Watamu, Kenya.

We have sent six of our volunteers for off-hand snake removal training at Watamu Snake Farm. The training involves an orientation to snakes and the problem of snakebite, a tour of their facility complete with the experience of handling snakes, and then the opportunity to learn how to use snake hooks and tongs, along with buckets and capture tubes, to safely catch and release venomous snakes. Only two of our snake handlers have enough training to handle big elapids like forest cobras and black mambas, but everyone is able to remove non-venomous snakes, puff adders, carpet vipers, and the smaller spitting cobras.
